The people behind Podere I Prati
I’m Nicolette, and together with my partner Stefano we personally manage Podere I Prati and take care of the land that surrounds it.
Our approach is simple: to preserve the Tuscan character of the house while looking after it with attention to the environment and to the natural balance of this place.
We are both deeply connected to this landscape and to the rhythm of countryside life. We produce our own olive oil, spend much of our time outdoors, and enjoy the everyday aspects of Italian culture — food, wine, nature and a slower way of living.
Podere I Prati reflects this way of life: understated, rooted in the land, and meant to be lived rather than showcased.
History
The Beginning
What first drew us to this area was not only the beauty of the Val d’Orcia and its extraordinary richness of archaeology, history and art, but also the remarkable biological diversity and sense of untouched nature.
We were particularly taken by Podere I Prati, a country estate where horses had grazed freely for over thirty years. Its dry, breezy climate proved especially well suited to olive growing and to the production of high-quality olive oil.
The farmhouse dates back to the 16th century and was expanded in the 1930s, gradually taking the form it has today.
The Evolution
In 2007 the house underwent a careful renovation, guided by ecological principles wherever possible. Sustainability has always been fundamental to us, and we chose environmentally friendly materials and solutions in order to respect both the building and its surroundings.
